Your life should revolve around Jesus, not your child(ren). Model for them your commitment to Jesus. Don't fill up their schedule so much that it drives the family's scheudule. It's okay to say "no".
Remember as much as you love your child(ren), God loves them more. He has a purpose for them. Let Him guide you as you guide your child(ren) to walk out His will for their life.

They are weak and powerless, crumbling before your foe. It's hard to stand and fight when the ground beneath you is unsteady, like sinking sand or miry clay.
Instead, make sure your feet are planted on the Rock. Trust and stand on God's Word that is timeless, proven, unchanging, and full of power.
"For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You make your saving help my shield; your help has made me great.
You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way."
(2 Samuel 22:32-37)

Goliath towered over all on the battlefield at 10 feet tall. As Goliath hurled curses and insults at David ( 1 Samuel 17:43-44), imagine how loud and intimidating the voice of a 10 foot giant must have sounded in the valley.
What did David do? Let's read 1 Samuel 17:45-47...
45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
Instead of listening to the taunts of his enemy, David made a choice. He did not repeat the words of Goliath in his heart allowing them to take root, but warred against Goliath by speaking the opposite. David spoke not in fear, but with boldness and confidence in God Almighty. His very words moved the heart of God into action on his behalf.
Whatever Goliath stands before you, remember death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Don't speak what you hear the enemy slinging at you, but speak what you hear God speaking over you. Counteract words of fear, rejection, disease, lack, and chaos with the Word of God.
David fought words with words before he ever picked up his slingshot.
If you want your Goliath to fall, you must do your part. Speak life to your situation and death over the plans of your Goliath.

While Jezebel was on a killing spree of God's prophets, Obadiah hid one hundred of the Lord's prophets in two caves (50 prophets in each cave). I'm not sure if they were waiting until Jezebel stopped hunting them, for her to die of old age, or for the Lord to intervene. With their silence they came into agreement with Jezebel's wicked plan, their own fear-filled thoughts, and feelings of hopelessness.
As the Lord's prophets took shelter in the caves, they did not confront the evil that was executing their fellow prophets and keeping them in hiding. Might I add, it was also a time of famine. While the land and its inhabitants suffered, they sat buffered, but only physically. Although, food and water was supplied by Obadiah, the prophets were suffering from the famine that had taken hold of their heart and mind. They were no longer operating in the office of prophet, no longer representing God, and no longer delivering His messages. They sat idle letting their thoughts and fears eat away at them.
In times of stress, discouragement, pain, fear, or confusion, don't hide. You have to do what the prophets in the caves were afraid to do if you want to be victorious: Confront who or what has caused you to hide. Your heart shouldn't be dry and parched, but a wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23). Your mind shouldn't be withered and worn, but in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Refuse to resign yourself to hiding and waiting without purpose. You are a child of the King. You represent the one true God who sits on high. It's time to come out of the cave.
