The Gutenberg Bible, also known as the 42-line Bible, is widely considered to be one of the most important books in the history of Western civilization. It was printed in the 1450s by Johannes Gutenberg, a German blacksmith and inventor, using a revolutionary new printing press with movable type. This technology, which allowed for the mass production of books, marked the beginning of the printing revolution and the widespread dissemination of knowledge.

The Gutenberg Bible is also significant for being one of the first major books printed in the West using the Roman alphabet and the first known book printed in Europe using movable type. It was a Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible, which was the standard version used in the Catholic Church at the time.

It is believed that only around 180 copies of the Gutenberg Bible were printed, with around 48 known to survive today. These copies are considered to be rare and valuable items, with some selling for millions of dollars at auction.

The Gutenberg Bible is considered a masterpiece of early printing technology, it was a major step towards the democratization of knowledge and the spread of education. It also had a significant impact on the development of the printing industry and the dissemination of the Word of God, which played a key role in the cultural, social, and political changes of the time.
