Prayer is primarily communication  and communion with God and is the means by which we share our life with Him and provide Him with the opportunity to speak into our life and direct our ways. It is as much about listening as it is telling and involves far more than presenting God with a list of requests.

Prayer is a direct line to heaven. Prayer allows us to talk to God. He wants us to communicate with Him. Like in today's society  person to person on our cell phones. You will  know  with  confidence that  God can hear you when you pray, so open the line of communication!

Prayer to many people seems complicated, but it's actually  just talking to God. Like we do with our best  friends and family. It is easy to talk to someone when you  know that they  love you  unconditionally.

All of us long to connect with someone who can identify with our circumstances and share in our day to day life. Prayer is just that personal experience and intimate connection with our loving Heavenly Father.

Many people  struggle with prayer. Prayer is a great  resource that God gives His people, one that must not be neglected  if the  people of God are to  grow strong in faith and persevere through difficulties.

Prayer is  an act of  obedience
In God's word, we are commanded to pray. It is not an optional exercise but is an act of obedience and an expression of  our  faithfulness to Jesus. If we choose not to pray, then we are disobeying direct  instruction from our  Lord.

However, prayer is first and foremost an alignment of our will with the Will of God's rather than aligning God's Will to  ours. When we approach God in prayer, we must first seek His will in our lives and in the world and then align our prayers with His revealed will. God's Word is very clear on this being a prerequisite to effective prayer. (1 John 5:14) "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

God's will is primarily revealed in His word, and any prayer that is contrary to the truths and values of the Bible will be ineffective and powerless. When we pray, it should always be in the context of the establishment of God's Kingdom value in our life and in the world around us- that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Beyond this, we need to seek God's specific will in our lives so that we can pray according to His will with regards to our unique life experience. This is best achieved through Biblical evaluation of our decisions and plans, spending much time with our Heavenly Father in prayer and meditation.

One of the most common misunderstanding about prayer is the view that prayer is a means to get God to do something for us. We see things in our life that we don't like, issues that  are adversely affecting us, or things that we think God should be doing, or that would make life easier or better for us and others, and we ask God to deal with these things, projecting on Him the outcome we expect.

(Ephesians 6:18 ) "pray in the Spirit on all  occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this  in mind, be alert and always keep  on praying for all the saints."

We have to pray  with faith. " So you see, it is important to  please  God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must first believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him."( Hebrews  11:6)

When we pray, we need to pray with worship and reverence. "Exalt the Lord our God! Bow low before  his feet, for he is holy!"( Psalm 99:5) "Yes Lord; the man said, 'I believe! ' And he worshiped Jesus " (John 9:38)
