2 Corinthians 4:16 (NJKV)
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

When I was 14, I was a cheerleader who could do the splits and cartwheels. (It didn’t even hurt.)

When I was 20, I could stay up all night. (It never took 3 days to recover.)

When I was 30, I could lift 40 pounds. (Without spraining every muscle in my body.)

Now, I can’t do any of those things.

Just like the Bible says, our outer man is decaying, no doubt about it. The number of people who face medical issues is growing every day.

Take note of this wonderful phrase, “our inner man is being renewed day by day.”

While the outer body is weakening, our hearts are growing stronger and maturing in the Lord. What a blessing!

For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
1 Corinthians 4:17-18

Going through physical afflictions is a natural part of living in a fallen world.

While taking care of our bodies is important, what is going on in our hearts is critical.

Having dealt with chronic illness for over 30 years, I can testify to how God teaches valuable lessons through our physical ailments.

Whether you are facing problems, health, or otherwise, the Bible says our afflictions are minor when viewed through the lens of eternity.

It’s easy to focus on our troubles and trials because they are present in front of us every moment of every day.

Our bodies may fail us on earth, but they are going to be perfect in heaven.

My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:26

If you are discouraged over your health, I want to lift your spirits.

Our physical strength isn’t nearly as important as the strength God provides.
