One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." (Luke 11:1)
The disciple question showed where his heart was. He didn't want to get something from God; he wanted to learn something fro God. On other words, he was saying to Jesus, "I know the traditions of prayer and the right formulas, but I want to know what the real thing is. I want to know how to have a meaningful relationship with God like You do." we was tired of empty words and vain repetitions. He wanted to learn about true prayer.
To properly understand what prayer is all about, we must first understand what prayer is not.
