View MoreWeekly Devotional 7-10-23 A Muslims Testimony I converted from Islam to Christianity simply because: Islam gives no guarantee of salvation. Because Islam recognizes that Jesus is 'the word of God' so God "the Messiah" therefore the savior ( Surah 3 v 45). Because Allah recognizes in the Qur'an that those who follow Jesus Christ (Christians) will be above those who do not follow Jesus Christ ( Muslims and others) until resurrection ( surah 3 v 55). Because Qur'an itself recognizes that Jesus Christ is without sin (pure) (surah 19 v 19), while the Qur'an asks Mohammed to pray for the forgiveness of his sins (surah 40 v 55). Unlike Mohammed, Jesus lived more than 33 years without ever sinning. I converted because where Mohammed recommends the killing of enemies, (surah 9 v 5) Jesus Christ recommends loving them (Matthew 5 v 44). Mohammed just affirmed, but Jesus Christ confirmed his words with all kinds of miracles and resurrection of his death. I converted because Mohammed is asking the Muslims to turn to Christians to get the truth (surah 10 v 94). I converted because despite Mohammed's claim to be the seal of the prophets, he is dead and will never return, but Jesus Christ whom I hated 2 before, died and resurrected and will come back to fight the Antichrist (even according to Islam). I converted because despite Jesus Christ being surrounded by several women, he did not seek to have sex with them unlike Mohammed who even had sex with Zaynab the wife of his son Zaid, (surah 33 v 37). And also because up till this day, the name Jesus delivers all kinds of captives, unlike the name of Mohammed! Because Mohammed recognizes that he doesn't know where he and the Muslims will be after death (surah 46 v 9). I converted because Mohammed says all Muslims will go through hell (surah 19 v 71) while Jesus Christ gives eternal life to all those who come to him (heaven) John 3 v 17. I converted because Jesus never attacked someone to take something from him, while Mohammed claims war booty (surah 8 v 1). I converted because the birth of Jesus Christ changed the whole world and not just a community, and many more reasons! So my brother my sister, only Jesus Christ saves. He is the way, truth and life. When I was a Muslim, I believed in everything we were taught about the Christians and the Bible and today that I became a Christian and read the Bible, I realize that what we were told is all wrong. Jesus was never a Muslim, He is the savior of the world and He loves you and wants to save you. Give your heart to him. I pray that the Lord God will bless those who share this article. View MoreWeekly Devotional 7-3-23 The Church and it’s Purpose Many people today see the church as being a building, but it is much more than that. The church is an assembly of people called out of humanity by the Holy Spirit forming a unique body, the body of Jesus Christ. In simple terms, the church is a group of people spiritually reborn by the Holy Spirit. Tracing this concept through the New Testament we find that the phrase “the Body of Christ” is a common New Testament metaphor for the Church (all those who are truly saved). The Church is called “one body in Christ” in Romans 12:5, “one body” in 1 Corinthians 10:17, “the body of Christ” in 1 Corinthians 12:27 and Ephesians 4:12, and “the body” in Hebrews 13:3. The Church is clearly equated with “the body” of Christ in Ephesians 5:23 and Colossians 1:24. Staff participants at GotQuestion.org proffer that the Church may be called the Body of Christ because of these facts: 1) Members of the Body of Christ are joined to Christ in salvation (Ephesians 4:15-16). 2) Members of the Body of Christ follow Christ as their Head (Ephesians 1:22-23). 3) Members of the Body of Christ are the physical representation of Christ in this world. The Church is the organism through which Christ manifests His life to the world today. 4) Members of the Body of Christ are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9). 5) Members of the Body of Christ possess a diversity of gifts suited to particular functions (1 Corinthians 12:4-31). “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ” (verse 12). 6) Members of the Body of Christ share a common bond with all other Christians, regardless of background, race, or ministry. “There should be no division in the body, but . . . its parts should have equal concern for each other” (1 Corinthians 12:25). 7) Members of the Body of Christ are secure in their salvation (John 10:28-30). For a Christian to lose his salvation, God would have to perform an “amputation” on the Body of Christ! 8) Members of the Body of Christ partake of Christ’s death and resurrection (Colossians 2:12). 9) Members of the Body of Christ share Christ’s inheritance (Romans 8:17). 10) Members of the Body of Christ receive the gift of Christ’s righteousness (Romans 5:17). End of Transcription. All these things are originated by the Holy Spirit, not by the members of the body. Consider how the apostle Paul explains this to the Ephesians. “1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 21-10). We note that when the Holy Spirit enacted His work in the Ephesians, they were spiritually dead toward God (spiritually separated from God having no recognition of, or desire for God). This is the condition of all people. The members of the church are unique “For we are “all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink” (1 Corinthians 12:13). What is the importance of this? Salvation (being made right with God) of course, but also for cohesiveness, and a vibrant testimony. To assure the success of this every member has been gifted by the Lord with specific gifts in order to build one another up, individually and collectively. Turning once again to the book of Ephesians, we read: 1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. 8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men"…….. 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-Christ- 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love” (Ephesians 4:1-8……..11-16). In summary then: The church is a called-out group of people from all over the earth who have been brought to faith, and renewed spiritually by the Spirit of God, for the purpose of glorifying God. To achieve this goal the Lord equips its members by distributing gifts of functionality to them. Based on these truths can an unbeliever be part of the “spiritual” church, the body of Christ? Not according to the passage cited above. This is not to say that they should be excluded from attending service and or other functions of the church, but they should not be given a platform from which to speak. No matter how well intended they may be, they would be speaking from human logic not from spiritual enlightenment. This is affirmed in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian Church: “9 But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1st Corinthians 2:9-14) In addition to speaking from human logic, Satan is at work deceiving and confusing the mind of the natural man, the man without the Spirit of God. As forthright and honest as the natural man may want to be he speaks from an unenlightened mind that is influenced by Satan, the enemy of God. Granting the natural man (the non-Christian) a voice (a license) to speak on spiritual matters is a dangerous thing. Theological persuasions spring forth from seeds (from spoken words) and people can be seriously injured by incorrect utterances. Protecting correct doctrine is a serious matter. It is the Lord’s church. Lord, help us in the consideration of who we are and our responsibility of protecting the integrity of your church. View MoreWeekly Devotional 6-19-23 Do We Have Guardian Angels Matthew 18:10 states, “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” In the context, “these little ones” could either apply to those who believe in Him (v. 6) or it could refer to the little children (vs. 3-5). This is the key passage regarding guardian angels. There is no doubt that good angels help protect (Daniel 6:20-23; 2 Kings 6:13-17), reveal information (Acts 7:52-53; Luke 1:11-20), guide (Matthew 1:20-21; Acts 8:26), provide for (Genesis 21:17-20; 1 Kings 19:5-7), and minister to believers in general (Hebrews 1:14). The question is whether each person—or each believer—has an angel assigned to him/her. In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel had the archangel (Michael) assigned to it (Daniel 10:21; 12:1), but Scripture nowhere states that an angel is “assigned” to an individual (angels were sometimes sent to individuals, but there is no mention of permanent assignment). The Jews fully developed the belief in guardian angels during the time between the Old and New Testament periods. Some early church fathers believed that each person had not only a good angel assigned to him/her, but a demon as well. The belief in guardian angels has been around for a long time, but there is no explicit scriptural basis for it. To return to Matthew 18:10, the word “their” is a collective pronoun in the Greek and refers to the fact that believers are served by angels in general. These angels are pictured as “always” watching the face of God so as to hear His command to them to help a believer when it is needed. The angels in this passage do not seem to be guarding a person so much as being attentive to the Father in heaven. The active duty or oversight seems, then, to come more from God than from the angels, which makes perfect sense because God alone is omniscient. He sees every believer at every moment, and He alone knows when one of us needs the intervention of an angel. Because they are continually seeing His face, the angels are at His disposal to help one of His “little ones.” It cannot be emphatically answered from Scripture whether or not each believer has a guardian angel assigned to him/her. But, as stated earlier, God does use angels in ministering to us. It is scriptural to say that He uses them as He uses us; that is, He in no way needs us or them to accomplish His purposes, but chooses to use us and them nevertheless (Hebrews 1:7). In the end, whether or not we have an angel assigned to protect us, we have an even greater assurance from God: if we are His children through faith in Christ, He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28-30), and Jesus Christ will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). If we have an omniscient, omnipotent, all-loving God with us, does it really matter whether or not there is a finite guardian angel protecting us? The apostle John, writing... View MoreWeekly Devotional 6-12-23 Not all God’s Children You have probably heard it said, “We are all God’s children.” Is such a statement credible? Not according to the Scriptures. The apostle John, writing about Jesus said, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12). According to this passage those who believed (believe) in Jesus were (are) given the right to become the children of God. One does not need to become what one already is. A few years later John wrote, “7Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:7-10a). In this letter, John speaks about those who are children of God and those who are children of the devil. Jesus said of the Pharisees, “42 If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do” (John 8:42-47). Jesus plainly qualifies these Pharisees as being the children of the devil, not the children of God. The apostle Paul prefacing his letter to the Ephesians said of himself and his fellow Christian Jews, “3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6). Paul’s claim was that he and his companions were predestined to be adopted as sons of God. One does not need to be adopted as a son if he were (is) a son already. To another group of people (the Galatians) Paul wrote, “26For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:26-29). Paul’s qualification of being a child of God was (is) being one by faith in Jesus Christ. Clearly, the Bible does not teach that all persons are the children of God. On the contrary, it teaches that all who are not in Christ Jesus are the children of the devil. This is affirmed by God’s judgment against Satan in the Garden of Eden. He said, “15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15). The Seed of the woman speaks of the man Jesus who would, centuries later, be the offspring of Mary and God the Holy Spirit; but the verse also speaks about Satan’s seed. That seed is identified in Scripture as being all those who are outside of God; more directly, those who are outside of Jesus Christ. God is glorified in and by the adoption process. He first calls, then regenerates, then justifies and then glorifies all those who become His children (Romans 8:28-30). Furthermore, He will also be glorified by His judgment against those who are the children of Satan. Jesus said, “27My sheep (God’s Children—my insertion) hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30I and My Father are one” (John 10:27-30). View MoreWeekly Devotional 6-5-23 Miracle or Not Many times I have heard someone say it was a miracle or is a miracle and I am convinced that said exclamation was heartfelt, the exclaimer sincerely believed that a miracle had occurred. But what is a miracle? A miracle is an intervention of God which transcends the ordinary laws of nature showing forth His power going beyond anything and everything else. The salvation of the human soul is a great example of this. There is nothing in the world that can regenerate a human being to new spiritual life except God the Holy Spirit. It is only He who can turn on the light of spiritual understanding. Consider for instance this excerpt from Jesus’ discussion with Nicodemus: “3:1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.’3 Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again’ ‘4 How can someone be born when they are old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!’ 5 Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit’” (John 3:1-8). Nicodemus was a Pharisee (a spiritual leader) of Judaism, a very religious man, yet he was spiritually dead, not able to see (under-stand) the kingdom of God or enter there in unless he was to be spiritually reborn from above. No human effort could have achieved his salvation, not his own effort, nor the effort of anyone else. And that is just the point, the miracle of salvation is a divine work of God unassociated with the work (effort) of the recipient. What after all is the purpose of a miracle? It is to draw attention to the person of God. To authenticate and affirm His authority (power), and His glory. In old testament times God manifested His person to Israel by various miracles, His overcoming the supposed gods of Egypt (Exodus, Chapters 5-14); His parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21–22; His destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Exodus 19:15-25) and, etc. In new testament times God authenticated the ministries of Jesus and the apostles by miracles. Jesus performed miracles of healing (Mark 1:32–34; 3:7–10…John 4:46–53), Miraculously provided food (Mark 6:30–44), and ruled over nature (Matthew 14:32–33). The apostles by the power of the Holy Spirit healed many people (Acts 3:10; 5:12-16; and 8:4-8). All the apostolic miracles displayed God’s power and confirmed or demonstrated the message of salvation in Jesus Christ. Now someone will ask, does God still do miracles today and I would answer yes, but with this qualification; the claim of a miracle must be substantiated by some authentication which is very hard to do, if not impossible. To say that God did this or did that leaves the claimer in an awkward situation. He must prove that what happened was actually a miracle rather than a natural provision, i.e., the administration of drugs, a diet, exercise, or a surgical procedure, etc. Unseen miracles of God undoubtedly occur every day, but they are just that, unseen. I close with this excerpt from the book of Romans, chapter 8. “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Unseen, God works to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ. He called us out of the world into His kingdom, He justified and continues to justify us, and He has glorified us (past tense). He openly sacrificed the life of His Son so that He could accomplish those things by the unseen work of the Holy Spirit. All those works are miraculous, but that is not all. He continually combats those things that would attempt to separate us from Himself. The Devil (Satan) walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1st Peter 5:8) but God prevents him from succeeding. So yes, God is a God of miracles and He is constantly at work performing them, but to point to a certain thing, i.e., a physical healing, and say that it was a miracle of God is dangerous because it can not be proven and the claimer loses credibility and maybe his or her witness. View MoreWeekly Devotional 2-20-23 Totally Surrendered, No Matter What Many there are who claim to have trusted Jesus for their salvation, but find it difficult to trust Him in the affairs of their everyday life. It is probable that this has been true of every Christian some time or other in his or her life and there are many reasons for this. Not the least of which may be not being totally surrendered to Him. Being totally surrendered to Christ opens the door to many things that the uncommitted (the un-surrendered) Christian just does not want to endure. Such a mindset impairs fellowship and communication with Christ and is a springboard to confusion and doubt. If we Christians want to learn how to trust Christ in the affairs of our lives we must be totally surrendered to Him expecting that not everything will go the way we may want. Jesus, just a few hours before He was arrested, told His disciples that they would have tribulation, but that they were to be of good cheer because He had overcome the world (John 16:33). Was there a limit to what he meant by tribulation? Many of them would suffer physical ailments, many would suffer through adverse weather conditions, be hungry and naked. Some would suffer beatings, imprisonment and some would even suffer death. These would be their experiences of life and those experience have been and are the experiences of Christians done through these many centuries. Should we wonder at these things and doubt that they may be the experiences of our life? Are we not to trust Him and be of good cheer, knowing that He has overcome the world? Shouldn‘t we Christians come to the point in our lives (as did Paul) where we glory in and know the purpose of the tribulations that God allows or brings into our lives. Knowing and trusting that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character, and character, hope. (See Romans 5:3-4). As an example, consider Paul’s testimony about the life he and his fellows lived. “8We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—10always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12So then death is working in us, but life in you.13And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:8-18). Now, most of us probably won’t be called upon to endure what Paul and his companions endured, however some may but remember Paul’s encouragement to the Roman church. In that encouragement he asked and answered: “35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: ‘For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.’ 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:35-39). Many things will come our way, things that are not pleasant, things that are the experiences of life but, God can and will use those things to bring us to a spiritually mature person.
