It's Server Backup Day! How are you backing up your server? Personally, I boot the server to a USB drive with Clonezilla on it and create a new backup image every quarter. Been doing this for years... View More

That's what I should probably do. Currently, I'm just pulling the latest yunohost backup and downloading it to my other pc....

I'd like to automate it, but I just haven't taken the time yet

Depending on how valuable the data, there should be 2 backups, one onsite for quick recoveries, and one offsite for security. Both should be network accessible for easy automation.

I just have a problem with off-site. I honestly don't want to pay but then if I put something at a family member's house, then you are looking at purchasing hardware and having a complicated setup. I'm tempted to buy another 4TB drive, back up to it and store it in a fireproof box.

I am using a Microsoft Surface Go as a daily driver. I installed Linux Fedora on it. I want to embrace the touchscreen and the pen, but this machine is increasingly locking up. I really don't want to... View More

Crazy? Maybe a little. I’d say more of setting yourself up for disappointment. If you just want to take notes and have touchscreen support, why not get a Samsung tablet with a pen? Or even (gasp) a base model iPad and Apple Pencil?

I will comment on the server part only! I am currently building a server to act as a storage, Family social media, and work station. I am using a Orange Pi 5 plus with 32GB memory, 2 5TB drives in a LVM volume. I am fairly confident the OPi is going to serve my purpose well, and it only cost me l... View More

That sounds awesome. I'm using an old gaming PC running Yunohost. I'm running Nextcloud on it. I'm running a couple of social media instance in the Fediverse. It's running a few wordpress sites also. But it needs to be upgraded. Only has 8gb RAM and it reminds be daily. 🤣 I Have a 2... View More

So, I thought I would try something else before overhauling the whole OS. I installed KDE Plasma and made it the default. So far it is working better than Gnome. Time will tell, I just did it last night.

The DE always depended on the OS flavor in my experience. For example, Manjaro with Gnome was fantastic, but Manjaro with KDE sucked. However, Arch with KDE was great, but Arch with Gnome wasn't. I will say that as a long term Windows user, I enjoy the "flow" and window manag... View More

As I'm trying to get prepared for my Microsoft certification, I'm laying off of YouTube for a while. Since I use it for music sometimes, I found that I can use MPV Player as a terminal music player. ... View More

Wishing you the best of luck on your certification, personally I think you would have more opportunity in the Linux world, but that's just me!

I actually tried for about a year to go deep into DevOps and get into the Linux world, but God had other plans. I'm pretty much glued to the Windows world after 16 years in my career, but it pays well, the family is taken care of. Can't ask for any better!

How do you guys feel about ads in our current tech day and age? Too much? Just enough? Doesn't bother you?

Depends on the ads, if they are appropriate, I find some times they help, otherwise, I just ignore them!

I have been against advertising for quite a few years now simply because it has become way too intrusive and obnoxious. Ever watched a 30 second YouTube video, but have ads before, during and after the actual video? What about trying to get a simple recipe for something but get bombarded by ads an... View More

I am against targeted ads. That means something is tracking and monitoring me. That's not okay for something to constantly be observing everything I do. Generic ads on moderation can be tolerable.
