7) YOU’VE “GIVEN UP”
Hebrews 10:39 “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”
REMEDY: Confess and repent of your sin to God.
8) SPIRITUAL PRIDE
1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for GOD RESISTETH THE PROUD, and giveth grace to the humble.”
Luke 14:11 “For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.”
If you approach God in prayer with an attitude full of pride, God will “resist” you.
REMEDY: Humble yourself before God, confess and repent.
9) ASKING OUTSIDE OF GOD’S WILL
1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
Whatever we ask must be in accordance to God’s Will.
REMEDY: Know God’s Word (read/study) well enough to know what you are asking for is within the bounds of His Word.
1 DISHONORING YOUR WIFE
1 Peter 3:7 (Husbands, you who have ears let him hear): Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; THAT YOUR PRAYERS BE NOT HINDERED.
This is for husbands only. Scripture is clear that a husband MUST honor his wife, remembering she is the weaker vessel. If he doesn’t, his prayers will be hindered. There are many ways a husband can dishonor his wife. In these end times, most men are not raised to honor his wife, let alone what this consists of. Scripture tells us that a husband must love his wife as his own body. You wouldn’t hurt your own body, right. How many times have you hurt your wife or done something that made her question your love for her? The Enemy has been working overtime through all media, twisting God’s standards for a “husband-wife” relationship to get to where it is today. Husbands take heed.
REMEDY: Accept the truth of God’s Word and His standards for marriage – in ALL ways. Set aside your pride and selfish (carnal) ways. Seek God’s face, wisdom and guidance, and choose to follow His instruction and parameters for marriage.
11) BEING HYPOCRITICAL/ATTENTION SEEKING
Matthew 6:5-6 “And when thou pray, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.6 But thou, when thou pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which sees in secret shall reward thee openly.”
Prayer is meant to be between God and you. Because of this scripture, I struggle with whether people should be called upon to pray during service. I believe the intent here is that pride has no place in your communication with God.
REMEDY: Pray to God in private.
12) VAIN REPETITIONS
Matthew 6:7 “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.”
God does not find pleasure in us saying over and over again, anything to Him. It is not about how many times we ask God. Other religions (Catholics, Buddists, etc.) use repetitions in prayer. It is clear from this scripture that God does not like it. We should have faith enough in Him to understand He hears us the first time and doesn’t need to hear us say it five more times to get His attention.
REMEDY: Pray concisely, knowing God is listening.
13) LACK OF AGREEMENT
Matthew 18:19-20 “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
God tells us that when there are two or three gathered in His name He is right there with them. AMEN! To pray together is very powerful when those praying are in agreement. Scripture reads, “IF” you agree . . . it shall be done. The opposite of that statement is also true: “IF” you don’t agree, it shall not be done.

Scripture reads, “IF” you agree . . . it shall be done. The opposite of that statement is also true: “IF” you don’t agree, it shall not be done.
REMEDY: Choose prayer partner(s) who will stand in agreement with you.
14) LACK OF PERSISTENCE
Luke 18:1 “And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”
Philippians 4:6 “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
Pray about everything; do not lose heart or give up.
REMEDY: Never lose confidence in God – always pray.
15) BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
John 15:7-8 “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”
God demands that in order to receive from Him, we must abide in Him and His Word (i.e. KNOW HIM). Yet another reason to read, know and obey God’s Word. If you don’t, it breaks down the line of communication with Him.
REMEDY: Read, study, obey--LIVE God’s Word, allow it to LIVE in you.
16) YOU DIDN’T FAST
Mark 9:29 “And he said unto them, ‘This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.’”
Sometimes fasting is required to obtain an answer from God.
REMEDY: Spiritual discernment and a disciplined life.
******************** ANY willful and habitual sin gives the Enemy LEGAL RIGHT. Most of the above are considered SIN with the exception of #1, 3, 9, 13, 14, 16. If you are committing any sin on a “regular” basis (known or unknown) Satan is aware legal right has been given and HE WILL TAKE IT! This is a very important part of Spiritual Warfare! The best offense is a good defense . . . ALWAYS!
Heed all Scripture listed to make sure lines of communication with God are not broken down and so legal right is not given to the Enemy.
2 Corinthians 2:8-11 “Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye BE OBEDIENT IN ALL [HOW MUCH IS ALL??] THINGS. 10 To whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for if I forgave anything, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; 11 LEST SATAN SHOULD GET AN ADVANTAGE OF US: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
