LifeCampUSA is a Christian mentoring camp that was developed to help fill the huge need for young men to learn what it looks like to be a real man in today’s world. The camp helps boys in 6th-8th grade who have lost their father as a result of their service in the military or law-enforcement fields or to suicide as a result of these careers.

What you focus on, you empower so focus on healthy thoughts. Philippians 4:8-9 says, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me - practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." We have the power to control direct our thoughts. It takes effort and conscious choice but we can do it. God has given us the power to do so or He wouldn't have told us to do it. We don't always have control over our circumstances and environment, but we do have control over how we react to them. So what do we do when something triggers us or a toxic thought enters our mind? We capture that thought as II Cor 10:4-5 says, "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete." Take the toxic thoughts captive. Make them obey Christ. You have the power to literally stop thinking about something and redirect you mind to think about things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy. So do that. Don't dwell on the negative and allow it to drive you to acting out in ways you will regret. One of the best ways to do this is to do what Galatians 6:2 says. "Bear one another's burdens and thereby fulfill the law of Christ." This is why I tell my men who struggle with porn addiction to make phone calls. When you're "in the feels" call somebody. Let them know you're thinking about them and ask them how you can pray for them. Get your thoughts of yourself. Be selfless and put someone else's needs above your own. Their burden is lighter than yours. Example... If I come home with troubled thoughts and my wife is upset, I immediately forget about what I was upset about and turn my attention to her. I ask her what's wrong? How can I help? How can I pray? Do you need to talk about it? Her burden is not as heavy for me as it is for her in that moment and exchange mine for hers. I spent 30 years addicted to pornography and at least 20 addicted to alcohol. My thoughts were full of negativity and toxicity. I knew what the Bible said but I failed to truly believe in it's power and that it would actually work. I chose only to see the negative. I can now say just like Paul did in the above scripture, Philippians 4:9, What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me - practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. This stuff works if you work it. I've proven that to myself. It does take effort. It is like exercise in that you have to build your spiritual muscles, but it can be done. So what are you thinking about? That's what you are becoming. Focus on the truth in God's word and apply it and you will truly be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
