TURNING UP THE HEAT ON THE DEVIL
A cultural idiom we used to hear is, “Who’s your daddy, now?”
The meaning was, who’s top dog, the best, the one that’s in control of who you are?
In the world of the Christian, that’s a question that’s more important than ever.
So, Christian, who’s your daddy, now?
For those who walk in the footsteps of Jesus, we can understand it in a more intimate way if we ask the question this way.
What’s in control of your life? Money? Fast cars? A good time on Saturday night?
What comes first in your thoughts when you are cut off in traffic? Do you growl in frustration, or consider that maybe someone is having a bad day, and you can give a little to make their bad day better?
Our verse today is found in James 4:7:
“Resist the devil and he will flee from you!”
Money … the devil teases you with it, but money won’t solve your problems.
Fast cars … a good time on Saturday night … neither of these are where God is found.
We must place Jesus first in our thoughts, first in our relationships, and first in our time.
Let’s let our cash speak our faithfulness, our lifestyles proclaim our dedication, and our every word praise the Savior who sacrificed his life for us.
The devil is no longer the boss of the dedicated Christian. Resist him, and he is forced to leave you alone.
That’s from the Bible, and you can depend on it every time.
